What is facial acupuncture?

Facial acupuncture (sometimes referred to as facial cosmetic or just cosmetic acupuncture) is a specific style of acupuncture designed to treat the face and neck It uses some of the same techniques and types of needles as acupuncture applied to other parts of the body and helps improve not just the look but the overall health of your skin. Facial acupuncture, which may also extend to the head and neck, may be done for other, non-skin-related health purposes, such as to relieve jaw tension.

How can facial acupuncture help improve the look of my skin?

Facial acupuncture helps to stimulate the blood flow to your face. It creates tiny wounds that, as they heal, trigger the body's production of collagen, which helps promote skin elasticity and diminish the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. Facial acupuncture also stimulates the body's circulatory and lymphatic systems, producing a bright, rejuvenated skin glow.

What's the difference between facial acupuncture and microneedling?

Facial acupuncture uses the same kind of thin needles as acupuncture applied to the rest of the body, although the length of the needle may vary. microneedling uses a specialized device to deliver repetitive "pinprick"-type punctures to an area of the face with a tiny needle. Unlike facial acupuncture, Microneedling does not involve needles "sticking out" of your skin.

Because one of the primary purposes of acupuncture is to bring the body's systems back into alignment and achieve an overall state of balance, it's recommended that facial acupuncture be performed in conjunction with acupuncture on other areas of the body. Microneedling can be performed by itself. Additionally, acupuncture has a lifting effect on the skin and muscles that results in an overall lifted appearance of the facial features.

When can I expect to see results? Are there any side effects?

To see results, we recommend a series of treatments over several weeks. 10-12 treatments are common as an initial course of treatment, with sessions twice a week. To maintain results, we recommend coming in once a month for a maintenance treatment.
